With the new season, we’re also adding some new City Edition apparel to our offer! The t-shirts and hoodies are already available, the jerseys are coming at the beginning of 2021! Have you ever wondered what inspired these colors and patterns?

BOSTON CELTICS

Boston Celtics are perhaps the most storied team in the NBA thanks to their 17 NBA titles and it is no surprise that it’s the history that inspired this year’s collection. The design was taken from the championship banners that hang from the rafters in TD Garden and includes the organization’s full ‘Boston Celtics’ name on the jersey for the first time ever.

Their representatives explained: “But while this uniform pays tribute to the past, it also symbolizes our always present championship-driven mindset, and we want our fans to share that mentality as we pursue Banner 18.”

BROOKLYN NETS

In addition to the Nets unveiling their Classic Edition uniform, which honors a fan-favorite “tie-dye” design worn during the 1990-91 season, they also presented their City Edition look, which is inspired by Brooklyn-born artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

In his iconic works, he blended text and in so doing illuminated important themes and issues that continue to resonate today.

CHICAGO BULLS

Bulls City Edition design honors the city in many different ways. The main one is remembering Daniel Burnham, the city planner who designed the city after the great Chicago fire. On the apparel, you’ll find art deco font and geometric patterns, which is a style found in many buildings in Chicago.

There’s also a tag “NO LITTLE PLANS” taken from Burnham’s famous quote about Chicago: “Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men’s blood.” This serves as a reminder to the players to always set big goals for themselves and aim higher.

DALLAS MAVERICKS

The silver and gold are a nod to the Mavericks 2011 NBA Championship season and the wings, a tribute to the Greek mythological creature, the Pegasus. For many years Pegasus has watched over Dallas and been a symbol of growth and prosperity.

We also think it looks similar to Luka’s uniform from Madrid!

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

Inspired by the team uniforms worn from 1997-2010, the Warriors celebrate 47 seasons in the Bay with their Oakland Forever jerseys. These jerseys focus on the We Believe era that included a playoff run in 2007. That year, the Warriors, an eight-seed, beat a one-seed, the Dallas Mavericks, for the first time in a best-of-seven playoff series.

HOUSTON ROCKETS

This year, the Rockets are donning the city’s famous Columbia blue, scarlet red, and white. The jersey is a nod to their very own Houston Oilers, the old American Football League and NFL team. The Oilers were part of Houston until 1996 when they moved to Memphis. Mixing new school vibes with this throwback jersey, the Rockets have “H-TOWN” across their chest, similar to what we saw on their city jerseys last season.

LOS ANGELES CLIPPLERS

The Clippers will have a City Edition uniform that looks much like their versions from 2019-20, but with reversed colors. This year, they invited an LA-based graffiti artist Royyal Dog, who has been tapped to “celebrate the authentic spirit of L.A. street culture” with Mister Cartoon for the team’s City Edition uniform and merchandise line.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS

The 2020-21 City Edition design is dedicated to Elgin Baylor: one of the first to play above the rim, a civil rights activist, and the first player to truly weaponize the jump-shot.

When the Lakers arrived in Los Angeles in 1960, they debuted in their new city wearing these uniforms. And although the design was a fresh look for a new beginning, the uniforms still had subtle nods to their Minneapolis past.

MIAMI HEAT

This year’s gradient uniforms are the firth and final installment of the Heat’s Vice campaign, which began in 2017. But this jersey introduces a new color, “Vice Violet,” to this collection.

“In 2017, VICE began as a journey—a trip back through time to a reality where 1988 never ended,” said Jennifer Alvarez, Vice President of Creative and Digital Marketing. “In 2018, we returned to the present for a series of sequel campaigns inspired by Miami’s many sides, beginning with the dark and serious ‘VICE Nights,’ then the more relaxed and mellow ‘Sunset VICE,’ and finally, the bright and energetic ‘ViceWave.’ ViceVersa is a graphic microcosm that envisions the Miami HEAT brand of the future.”
