Basketball has continually impressed people with its unique gameplay and style, therefore it became so much more than just a sport. This blog is specifically about how the game successfully made its way to the movie industry which resulted in a number of great films. This is our top 10 list but feel free to leave your opinions as well, and in case you haven’t watched some of these make sure to do that as soon as possible!

Rebound – The Legend of Earl “The Goat” Manigault

What a great story about probably the greatest basketball player who never played in the NBA. He was a New York City streetball legend, but poor decisions led his life elsewhere. Luckily, his story ended with a redemption.

Blue Chips

One of the best movies ever to show how NCAA basketball works and what goes on behind the scenes. There’s also great basketball played in the movie because it has Shaquille O’Neal and Penny Hardaway. Shaq actually starred in plenty of movies, but most of them are…forgettable – but this one is great, so definitely check it out.

The Other Dream Team

Let’s get a documentary on this list! Lithuania and the Philippines are considered to be the only countries in the world where basketball is the number one national sport in the country. The film follows how this phenomenon developed in the European country and it also focuses on the 1992 Lithuanian National Basketball team at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona (with great footage and commentary from basketball legends such as Šarūnas Marčiulionis and Arvydas Sabonis).

Semi-Pro

Time for some laughs! Semi-Pro follows the story of a fictional ABA team that wants to survive the NBA merger. It’s a very interesting and funky movie, it has a cool story and an awesome lineup of actors.

Above the Rim

While it’s an older basketball movie, Above the Rim still holds up. It is about a high school basketball star that had a very promising career. Oh yeah, it also has Tupac Shakur!

Coach Carter

This is a very exciting flick where we see the life of a basketball coach after he benches an entire basketball team. What happens is that they are breaking their academic contract with him, and he ends up teaching them a leason. It’s got drama, but it is also fun.

White men can’t jump

The trash talking. The quality of basketball played by the actors. The clothes and style. This movie has it all covered and this is why it is rightfully considered as one of the best! Also, shoutout to Woody Harrelson for his second appearance on this list.

Hustle

Adam Sandler as an NBA scout that finds a raw talent and prepares him for the NBA draft. It’s a super exciting movie, it shows the twists and turns of becoming a basketball pro. It also covers the business side of basketball, which is rarely shown in movies.

Space Jam

We will include both movies on the list because we don’t want bad blood in this blog between Jordan and King James fans 😀

The stories of the movie are secondary, but they are both super fun for the entire family. Most of all, they are crazy interesting to sneakerheads because of all the great shoes rolled out in them by LeBron and MJ.

Whenever we have any gear related to these films it always sells out real fast. This is available now.

He got game

The main stars of the movie are Denzel Washington, Ray Allen as well as the iconic Air Jordan 13s (we almost always hold various colorways of the shoe, this is the Air Jordan 13 Retro French Blue and the Nike Foamposites. Throw in the epic soundtrack by Public Enemy and this Spike Lee joint about the challenges a talented high school player faces is definitely the #goat of all basketball movies.

That’s it for this list and, like we said, be sure to leave a comment about what you think about these movies and if we forgot to include something on the list.
