Presenting the 20th consecutive edition of LeBron James’ signature sneaker

It is simply not possible to begin writing about the 20th consecutive edition of LeBron Jamessignature sneaker without being in complete awe of what he has achieved while spending more than half of his entire life dominating in the NBA. From the looks of it, he is nowhere near ready to relinquish his crown quite yet, either. Still, he is more than excited to invite the next generation of hoopers to join him in celebrating basketball.

The Next Generation

This is the design basis of the LeBron XX. Before we get into the details of this amazing basketball shoe that back all of this up, it is worth pointing out that a real life manifestation of these messages occurred when the 20s were basically showcased to the world by Bronny and Bryce James a.k.a. the next generation. (Again, just to let everyone know about who still wears the crown, LeBron wore them first at the Drew league.)

After just a quick first glance at the shoe, many could have a tough time connecting this low-top, lightweight silhouette to LeBron’s signature sneaker line. After all, the King always went with kicks that were:

  • looking quite robust
  • never among lighter models on the market
  • full of (visible) Nike Air technology

Given the significance of this model and of the point that LeBron’s career is in, this shoe simply had to be different. And different it is!

“We saw the XX as a chance to celebrate the next 20 years for LeBron,” says Jason Petrie, Senior Footwear Designer for Men’s Basketball and lead designer of the LeBron line since the Zoom LeBron VII. “The stitched tag inside the tongue says, ‘Designed and Engineered to the Exact Specifications of the Next Generation.’ We took that line seriously as we designed the shoe. We had players like LeBron’s sons Bronny and Bryce in mind. We wanted to get in their heads and learn about what young players were looking for.”

Connecting the past with the future

All of this resulted in the XX edition being the lightest ever LeBron shoes (and they feel absolutely great once you put them on) and also the first ever to debut as a low-top performance shoe endorsed by the “Kid From Akron”.

Even though it is not visible as it normally was with his previous releases, there is Air that will make your moves so much smoother – in the form of Zoom Air units in the forefoot and the heel. Specifically, the front part uses Air Zoom Turbo (introduced and made famous with the Nike Kyrie 5) while there is a 13 mm thick Zoom Air unit under the heel. This, of course, is a very strong connection to what we are used to from Bron’s signature line and also a solution that perfectly accompanies his playing style.

Another “old-school” feature that first appeared on the LeBron 5s is the carbon fiber midfoot shank that is ideal for energy return and explosive movements. Finally, the Dunkman logo is back on the outsole for the first time since the LeBron 16. Speaking of the sole, it looks great and performs even better! The multi-directional pattern also has the next-generation-bridge message as it is not a typical herringbone solution but it still provides great results that we are used to from this classic.

Long live the King!

The only thing we can add after the shoe was tested by our team members at Grosbasket stores in Budapest, Ljubljana and Zagreb is that this might be one of the best LeBron shoes ever and we hope that you will have a chance to visit us and at least try them on. If you have to go the online route, we recommend going true to size.

Make sure to let us know anywhere on social media about what you think and love about this model that will definitely be remembered by all generations – especially if LeBron is ready to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a deep playoff run or maybe even to the top of the NBA!
