Before we start writing about the new signature model of the Amazing Spider-Man, sorry, Donovan “Spida” Mitchell, we just have to mention the amazing accomplishments of player nr. 45 in the first round of this year’s playoffs.

For starters, whenever the vast majority of fans hear about the Utah Jazz they still first think of the legendary Stockton-Malone duo, but that could soon change. Namely, Mitchell set a franchise record for the number of points in a playoff game with 57 points during the first game against Denver (the record was held by Malone with 50). To make things better, with this achievement he entered the elite group of top 3 scorers for one game in playoffs history. Only Elgin Baylor with 61 points (Los Angeles Lakers vs. Boston, 1961) and MJ who had his amazing game also against the Celtics in 1986 with 63 are now ahead of him. Mitchell did not stop here, so he scored 51 in the fourth game of the series. And with this he ended up in the top 3 as a player who scored more than 50 in at least two games in one playoff series. Of course, MJ is on that list again (1998 vs. Cleveland) and Allen Iverson (2001 v. Raptors). That fourth game of the Utah-Denver series also became historic in that it was the first-ever in the NBA playoffs in which opposing players scored at least 50 points (Jamal Murray scored that many for the Nuggets).

So, adidas D.O.N. Issue #2 could not have gotten a better promotion campaign! The company immediately further emphasized that together with Mitchell, they remain committed to his “Determination Over Negativity” slogan, with the help of which they want to encourage positive changes on the basketball courts, but also in the communities around them. Mitchell added that in the eyes of especially younger fans, he wants to be much more than just a basketball player because he wants to be the voice of all who suffer injustice. The first model that came to our stores in children’s sizes was the one created in repeated cooperation with Marvel. It is the “Spidey-Sense” colorway of green fluorescent color – and the lower parts of the shoe are glow in the dark! Still, the emphasis here remains on helping communities because the full name of the comic book was “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man”.

Now we can also talk about the specifications! The main technology of the sneaker is Bounce, just like with last year’s model, and this helped to keep the same popular price without sacrificing its quality and comfort. As another connection between the first two models of the series, we have an upper that is made of a very similar – and durable – mesh material.

The fit is also similar so you might need to get a pair that is half a size up from your regular choice. This is actually where the similarities end and perhaps the biggest difference is the sole that has undergone a significant redesign. With the 1s, it was quite flat, and now we got something we already wrote about in the blog for Freak 2 and Why Not Zer0.3, which is a two-piece sole. A special plus is that now the front part of the sole is curved upwards (again similar to the Westbrook sneaker) and this actually enhances the bouncy feeling of the sneaker. We strongly support this. The pattern on the sole is also interesting because it resembles a spider’s web without a doubt, which according to the first tests supports changes of direction and stops. If you don’t believe us, take a look at the highlights of our superhero Donovan! ;D

Another difference is that the 2s are a bit higher and this is best seen by comparing the backs of the sneakers. In particular, Issue #2 has a raised heel counter with additional cushioning which gives a great lockdown feeling that many like. Simply put, the first model was almost low and the second is a mid. Additional differences are moving the great-looking Spida logo from the tongue to the back above the heel which is also a great change.

For the only logical conclusion to the story of this super-sneaker all we can do is repeat what we wrote earlier – if we are not convincing you, at least take a look at what Mitchell and his adidas D.O.N. Issue #2 are doing on NBA courts, and then immediately “swing” to our stores or webpage!
